I got it

Alright, so I finally did it, got myself a facebook page. We'll see how it goes. I'm still trying to get the hang of using it, it's much more different than the personal profile page. Do if you'd like to add me there, by all means :D Samantha Nandez on facebook

Organizing

So I'm making attempts at organizing my apartment. Last night I went through my mess of jewelry and I'm trying to figure out the best way to organize/display it so hopefully I will wear it more often. Being shut away in a jewelry box makes me forget about it. Any suggestions?! Also, I need to organize books, camera equipment...and just a whole bunch of stuff in general. Send me your ideas :eager: :D

Moulin Rouge (1952)
:star::star::star::star::star::star::star-empty::star-empty::star-empty::star-empty:
This version of Moulin Rouge focuses on the life of artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. Considering when it was made, I think it was well done, and I really enjoyed Jose Ferrer's portrayal of the artist. Two things stuck in my mind while watching the movie: First, I would love to see this film re-made (which is a rare desire,I know) but I think that with a stronger script, it could be a very powerful film. Second, painters are known to depict the world as they see it. All artists are...so why are photographers condemned when they do the same thing?

Still Deciding, Websites, Thoughts, Holidays

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 28, 2009, 2:29 PM

facebook

I'm still trying to decide if I really want to set up a facebook page or not. Pros and cons? Pros: gallery, easy to use, wide audience. Cons: another thing to keep track of, will it actually benefit me?, time consuming?...So if you have any thoughts, let me know. According to my poll many a person much preferred facebook.

Websites

On that note, of the sites I do use I keep up with My Blog and My Twitter often. So do follow and share some love :D

Thoughts

In these last few days, having had nothing to do, I've been doing a bit of thinking. Another year has nearly gone by and I haven't lived up to my resolution, keeping up with my independent projects :giggle: a.k.a my 365 and my Rainbow Project :slap: bad me. SO, I've been thinking I may just try again. I really had fun with the 365 one because I was photographing like I used to. With limited means and lots of creativity. I may start simple though and maybe do a 52 project. One a week, hehe. I and do have some ideas in the works for my rainbow project...be patient with me

On another note, I've been going through and clearing out deviations again. I must thank you all for the faves and :dalove: you've given me over the years and I hope you stick around for things to come. Love you all!

Holidays

Thanksgiving is over, I'll be driving back to Tuscaloosa tonight and then back to work on Monday morning. I'm looking forward to it, lol. After two days of doing nothing I get really edgy...must...do...stuff...I'm also going to try and think more positively about my job. I'm going to add in that creativity even if they shoot it down. I'm going to do things different, make myself feel better about my work produced there and try to have a more positive outlook. On the plus side, football season is over so I should at least have more down time on weekends to use on photo shoots of MY choosing :eager:

facebook v. MySpace, Modeling, Movies, Life

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 24, 2009, 8:07 AM

facebook v. MySpace

So. I've dropped my MySpace, or least, blanked out the page because I'm tired of being added by people who don't realize I'm a photographer and think somehow I'm all those pretty women in the pictures, blegh. I'm retaining the page though mostly to keep the URL, who knows what will happen in the future. Then, there's Model Mayhem. I'd say one out of 10 people who contact me there are actually serious about modeling and aren't just trying to get me to do TFP photos of them for their boyfriend or what have you, no ladies, I'm no interested in shooting you half naked for no good reason. I may drop that site to. Which brings me to facebook. As with most social networking sites I try my damnedest to fight them, but in the end I learn it's not as bad as it seems. I use it as a personal profile....kinda. I've never really considered using it for my photography. What say you fellow deviants? To facebook or not to facebook? That is the question. There's also a poll if you're interested in just clicking one button rather than sharing your insight ;D

Modeling

Last Sunday I did a shoot with =eyrieslove1 and it was good fun indeed! She had some great ideas and I think we made a good team. It was fun being just the model. She's got two shots up for now:

go share some :dalove: And be sure to check out the rest of her gallery too! [link]

A Christmas Carol
:star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star-empty: :star-empty: :star-empty:
I went into this movie expecting a light hearted fun kids movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. I found it was much more than that. It was a wonderful adaptation of the classic story and I liked that it wasn't fluffed up. There were certainly scary parts, intense parts, and of course the happy parts, but that's the story. Zemeckis also utilized the 3D aspect very well, he took advantage of the medium and I'm glad he did. There was more to the scenes than just some extra depth. I think that because it's animated, people are assuming that it's made just for kids, but I think those rules are changing now. Not that kids couldn't watch it (as long as they don't scare easy) but even the language is faithful to the original book, so I'd imagine it would be difficult for them to follow. In summation, if you like the classic story and you'd like to see it in a fun new way, definitely check this version out in 3D.

The Ugly Truth
:star: :star: :star: :star: :star-empty: :star-empty: :star-empty: :star-empty: :star-empty: :star-empty:
Pretty much your par to the course romantic comedy, with setbacks. I love Katherine Heigl, I love Gereard Butler, and their chemistry was pretty much the best thing about the movie. I felt the story wasn't worked enough and you don't get much of a background with Butler's character. Plus...his American accent wasn't working for him. There were certainly funny parts as well, but overall I'd keep it to a renter if you like this kind of movie. I wouldn't add it to my collection.

Life

The busy days always happen when you're not ready for them, go figure. But it's all good, this week is a short week because Thursday is Thanksgiving! Yay!! Who's gonna eat lots of food?? I'M gonna eat lots of food! :eager: I love food. It's a good thing I did that photoshoot before, haha...just kidding...but seriously. It's about time for a vacation and I'm very much looking forward to it. I'll be visiting my boyfriend's family in Georgia where they just moved to, so it should be a nice trip. In other news, I have some REALLY great photoshoots planned in the next three months. They're pretty decent undertakings, or at least more so than I've done in the past, so I hope they work out and I really look forward to sharing them with you. Stay tuned!!

Until next time...

Sub, Life, Movies

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 10, 2009, 7:55 AM

dA Sub

Of course...out again. But alas! I have one more bill to pay and I shall buy one. Fun times. I think I've been way spoiled using dA with a sub (which I guess is call "premier account" now) that I almost can't handle browsing without one :giggle: So....many...ads...can't...breathe.....

Life

My apologies for the lack up the updating. This time around I just feel like I haven't had much to say :/ Almost done with all my shoots of late...but have two more this weekend, haha. Which is good. I've been charging for shoots, but I've decided I should concentrate on building my port and not money. So if you're a clothing designer or make-up artist, I've got you covered. Models I'll selectively do TFP mostly because there are too many out there just BSing around. And for those who just want pretty portraits...you're still paying. Send me a message! :D

At any rate, life is good. I finally made my apartment look like I live in it!!! I'm thinking of taking pics to share if you're interested. Also this last weekend I had a friend from El Paso come and visit, which was super fun. It was great to reminisce. Happy times. And ROLL TIDE! We best LSU

:film:Movies:film:

Gran Torino
:star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star-empty:
This movie was much better than I thought it would be, despite all the positive reviews and recommendations from friends. I imagined a movie with lots of gun fire, lots of fighting, etc. Which I don't mind, but that's just not my favorite kind of movie. Gran Torino wasn't like that. Yes, there was some of course, but not so much that it was overbearing. It was more focused on the developing relationships of the main character and his neighbors and how they've come to understand one another. remarkably done. Mr. Eastwood, I should have known, I shall not doubt you again ;) WARNIING: If you can't handle cussing or the use of racial slurs DO NOT watch this movie.

El Orfanato (The Orfanage)
:star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star-empty: :star-empty:
Wow. Another movie that turned out different than I expected. I was thinking it was going to be a horror movie, but that is so not the case. I mean there are scary parts (I jumped twice) but that's not the goal of the film. Guillermo Del Torro I tip my hat to you. I absolutely love his twisted and creative imagination. He took a classic story (I won't say which so you can find out for yourself ;D ) and made it into something dark, scary, and oh so sad (I almost cried at the end), in a wonderfully artful Del Torro way. If you liked Pan's Labyrinth, you'll enjoy this as well. We'll just pretend he never made Hell Boy shall we ;)

Advice on pen tablets please!

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 21, 2009, 12:46 PM

Wireless Graphire vs. Intuos4

I'm looking to get a new pen tablet because I've already managed to wear through 2 somehow. Ugh. I'm assuming the last two I had stopped working was because my constant transport of them. I don't think their wires can handle all the bending. So I need something that's easy to move, hence the wireless. However, the Graphire only has 512 points of pressure vs. the 2048 that the medium Intuos 4 has. Also I use the Intuos 4 medium at work and love it. BUT it's wired ;P Also $100 more.

So if any photogs, designers, digital painters have any advice I would love to hear it!

Also, I saw Funny Face last night (Audrey Hepburn & Fred Astaire). It was cute, the dancing was great but I wasn't fond of all the musical numbers. I adore Audrey Hepburn though :D
